Al Rex: “Hydrogen Bomb” (1959)

Al Rex (1928- ) was an American singer and musician. He earned a degree of musical fame as the double bass player with Bill Haley and His Comets.

Rex later had a short solo career, which included the 1959 single Hydrogen Bomb. With its upbeat tempo and doo-wop style harmonies, Hydrogen Bomb invokes religious characters and themes, warning of a “judgement day” when “we’ll all be rocked away”.

Neither this song or Rex’s solo career was successful and he retired from the music industry soon after.

Chorus
Bomb, bomb, hydrogen bomb
Hey bomb bomb, hydrogen bomb
It’s a big loud noise and get real gone
Bomb, bomb, the hydrogen bomb

Well Jonah got lost in the belly of a crazy whale
Well, Jonah got lost in the belly of a crazy whale
He was solid man and dig that crazy tail

Chorus

Well, Daniel was a real cool cat they say
Well, Daniel was a real cool cat they say
He did the Mambo with the other cats olé, olé

Chorus

Well Gabriel had a horn that was all reet
Well Gabriel had a horn that was all reet
He was a real gone daddy with a solid groovy beat

Chorus

Well judgement day will come some day they say
Well judgement day will come some day they say
And when it does we’ll all be rocked away

Chorus
